The King of Kong (2007)
A good movie about the epic battle to get the highest score on the arcade version of Donkey Kong. A story of conspiracies, human shortcomings, good and not quite as good (definitely not evil).
After seeing the movie and visiting the website that the movie was about (Twin Galaxies), I can honestly say that I doubt the accuracy of the story that was told. A couple of points:
1. The movie detailed a fight for the high score between two people. When in fact, the high score war involved a third person that was never even mentioned.
2. The movie has become outdated since it’s release, since the current record holder no longer matches what was shown in the final scene.
3. There were scenes in which a tape for a score was admitted, despite glaring inconsistencies in the video quality and possible problems with the tape being seamless. Was the original tape ever witnessed? Why was the score given validity without inspection of Billy’s machine? The movie made it seem as though Steve’s tape wasn’t admitted to be a high score because there wasn’t a judge present to witness his score, which I don’t think was consistent, because none of Billy’s scores were witnessed by a judge (if you don’t count himself).
Anyway, just a few of the things that I saw. I tried to register for an account to post some questions on their forums, but they don’t seem to want to verify my registration. Oh well, it’s just a video game.
