I've seen the two-up image-comparison component used as an example of progressive enhancement. Without JS you should still get a side-by-side of the two images.
But these days, it seems like you could do a pretty good* #CSS fallback of the whole feature? Is this anything? I imagine I'm not the first to play with it?
* resize handles aren't excellent, but they work.
